The Department of Information and Public Relations is basically an interface between Government, Media and the Public. The Department is charged with the responsibility of projecting and disseminating information about the programmes, policies and achievements of the government. The department provides this information to the Print and Electronic Media for information of public at large.
The Information Department has to liaise with the media and also provide the required facilitation to media persons to enable them to cover the events/ happenings across the State. The Information Department has a team of reporters who are deployed with various Ministries to cover Government functions. The Press releases are made and issued on daily basis electronically to all the Newspapers, News Agencies and Electronic Media within and outside the state.
At Divisional Levels the department is headed by Joint Director who exercise the Administrative control of the Units in their respective Divisions. At District Level there are District Information Officers.
Besides, the department has one Bureau outside the state at New Delhi which is headed by Director (PR). The total staff strength of the department is 823. The category wise breakup is as under:-
